Ethical Considerations and Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice with Black Clients

Ethical principles are fundamental to clinical social work practice with Black clients. We cannot just work with this population without considering the ancestral trauma they have survived. Cultural competence includes but is not limited to grounding our work in theoretical frameworks that consider the biopsychosocial implications of this history as well as modifying treatment interventions to allow Black clients to remain safe while they are in our care.
